Thoughts on a Pretty Spring Day

I’d better write this fast because tomorrow it is supposed to rain again.  It is bright and colorful around my neighborhood today. There are camellias, azaleas, white candytuft, the last of the daffodils in bloom, and flowering trees to make the air rain with pink when the wind blows. The sun makes everything glow.  I take a great deal of joy in my beautiful surroundings.  Here are some of the things God is having me do and think about right now:

  • One Handful of Rice is supposed to grow and expand in meaning and purpose. Right now it is mainly a fundraising tool for Dayanilayam but once the website is up it should expand to include a message for women everywhere to live with a global perspective and learn what it means to live generously.
  • I am diving into becoming a freelance writer.  I know I am a novice and it will take a lot of work, but it is something I’ve always wanted to do.  I’m having fun rewriting some of the old things I’ve thrown into files in the past few years and reading the how-to’s of getting published.  I am attending a one day writer’s conference in Eugene next weekend.  I’ll rub elbows with those at loftier levels than myself.
  • I’ve reconnected with friends.  In my teaching life I never had time to do that and I really value the relationships I have with various women.  It’s a good thing.
  • I’m trying to add the important pieces into my schedule while allowing time and freedom to relax and “play” when I want to.  That is one of my retirement gifts for sure.
  • I’m spending time with family- via email with Josh and in person with Sara and family.  Mr. Elijah had his first piano recital last weekend and it was so much fun to see him up on stage with his white shirt and tie introducing himself like a big man.  “My name is Elijah James Walker and I will play Deep and Wide.”  It was worth the cost of my flight over and the hassle of getting rides to and from the airport just to watch him do that flawless two minute performance.

So I’m off to take a walk, do some praying, make some granola, work on some writing goals, ….. and play a little.
